Understanding Google Ads

What is Google Ads and Why Does it Matter?

Google Ads (formerly Google AdWords) is Google's online paid advertising platform that lets businesses place their ads in front of people who are actively searching for the products or services they offer. Unlike social media advertising where you interrupt someone's feed, Google Ads reaches people at the exact moment of intent — when they're typing in a search query, watching a video, or browsing websites relevant to your business.

Google processes over 8.5 billion searches every day. Google Ads gives businesses of any size the ability to appear at the very top of Page 1 for their most valuable keywords — within hours of launching a campaign, not months. The platform is auction-based: you bid on keywords, and Google determines your ad position using your bid, Quality Score, and expected impact.

The real power of Google Ads is its precision. You can target by keyword intent, geographic location down to a PIN code, device type, time of day, demographic, and audience behaviour. When managed correctly, Google Ads delivers the lowest cost per acquisition of any paid channel — because you're only paying to reach people who already want what you sell.

PPC

Google Ads is a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising platform. You only pay when someone clicks your ad — making it one of the most accountable, measurable, and scalable digital marketing channels available to businesses in India and globally.

Think of Google Ads as a digital auction happening in milliseconds every time someone searches. The highest bidder doesn't always win — Google rewards relevance and quality, meaning a well-optimised ₹50 bid can outrank a poorly structured ₹200 bid from a competitor.

User Searches with Buying Intent

A prospect types "buy protein powder online India" or "hire plumber near me" into Google — expressing a clear, immediate intent to purchase or contact.

Google Runs an Instant Auction

In milliseconds, Google evaluates every advertiser's bid, Quality Score, and ad relevance to determine which ads show, in which position, and at what price.

Your Ad Appears at the Top of Page 1

Your text, shopping, or responsive ad is shown prominently above organic results. The user sees a relevant, compelling ad and clicks — landing on your website or call page.

Click Converts into Revenue

Proper landing page alignment, conversion tracking, and audience targeting ensure that every click has the highest possible chance of becoming a lead, call, or sale for your business.

Why Google Ads

6 Reasons Google Ads is the
Fastest Path to Qualified Leads

01

Instant Visibility — Day One

Unlike SEO which takes 3–6 months, Google Ads can put you at the top of Page 1 within 24–48 hours of campaign launch. If you have a product to sell or a service to offer today, Google Ads is the only channel that delivers immediate, scalable, targeted visibility from day one.

02

Laser-Targeted Buyer Intent

Google Ads targets people at the exact moment they are searching for what you sell — not a cold audience. A user searching "best UPSC coaching Patna fees" is infinitely more likely to convert than someone who saw your Instagram post while scrolling. Intent-based targeting is why Google Ads drives the industry's highest conversion rates.

03

Complete Budget Control

There's no minimum spend requirement. You set a daily budget, choose maximum bids, and pause any time. Every rupee is tracked — you can see exactly which keyword, which ad, and which audience delivered which result. No other channel gives you this level of financial precision and control over your ad spend.

04

Measurable ROI on Every Rupee

Google Ads is the most measurable marketing channel that exists. With proper conversion tracking through GA4 and Google Ads tags, you can see the exact cost of every lead, every call, every sale, and every revenue rupee generated — down to the individual keyword level. Real accountability, not estimated reach.

05

Scales Instantly With Demand

When a campaign is performing — delivering leads at profitable cost — you can increase the budget immediately and get proportionally more results. Google Ads is the only channel where you can double your lead volume within 24 hours without waiting for organic momentum or audience building. Scale up or down based on seasonality, stock, or capacity.

06

Compete on Relevance, Not Just Budget

Google's Ad Rank system rewards relevance and Quality Score over raw bid amounts. A well-structured campaign with compelling ad copy and a great landing page can outrank bigger-budget competitors — and pay less per click doing it. Smart Google Ads management levels the playing field for growing businesses.

Campaign Types

Every Google Ads Format —
Used Strategically

Not every campaign type suits every business. We select, build, and optimise the right mix of Search, Display, Shopping, YouTube, and Performance Max campaigns based on your specific goals, margins, and customer acquisition funnel — never a one-size-fits-all approach.

TYPE 01

Search Campaigns

Text ads that appear on Google Search results when someone types a keyword related to your business. The highest-intent campaign type — users are actively looking for your product or service right now.

  • Responsive Search Ads (RSA) with 15 headlines
  • Exact, Phrase & Broad Match keyword strategy
  • Negative keyword lists to block irrelevant clicks
  • Ad extensions — sitelinks, callouts, call, location
  • Ad scheduling for peak conversion hours
  • Competitor keyword targeting
  • Dynamic Search Ads for large product catalogues
  • Quality Score optimisation per keyword
TYPE 02

Performance Max & YouTube

Google's AI-driven campaign type that serves ads across all Google inventory — Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and Discover — from a single campaign. Ideal for lead gen and ecommerce with strong creative assets.

  • Multi-format creative asset groups
  • Audience signal setup and refinement
  • Video ads: skippable, non-skippable, bumper
  • YouTube targeting by intent, topic & remarketing
  • Smart bidding — Target CPA or Target ROAS
  • Asset performance monitoring and iteration
  • Brand safety and placement exclusions
  • Insight reports for audience learning
TYPE 03

Shopping & Remarketing

Product listing ads that show your product image, title, price, and store name directly in Google Search results — ideal for ecommerce. Remarketing re-engages visitors who didn't convert on their first visit.

  • Google Merchant Centre feed setup & optimisation
  • Standard & Smart Shopping campaigns
  • Product title, description & image optimisation
  • RLSA (Remarketing Lists for Search Ads)
  • Dynamic Remarketing with product-level personalisation
  • Display Remarketing across 2M+ partner sites
  • Customer Match — target existing customer lists
  • Cart abandonment recovery campaigns

The Auction System

How Google Ads Really
Works — The Ad Auction
Explained

Every time a user performs a Google search, an automated auction happens in milliseconds. Understanding this auction is the key difference between a campaign that bleeds budget and one that compounds returns. Most agencies optimise for clicks — we optimise for Ad Rank, Quality Score, and conversion value.

05

Ad Shown + CPC Set

Highest Ad Rank wins the top position at lowest fair price

CTR
Expected Click-Through Rate

Google predicts how likely your ad is to be clicked when shown for that keyword. Historical performance and ad copy relevance drive this metric. Higher predicted CTR = lower CPC and better position.

AD
Ad Relevance to Query

How closely your ad copy matches the user's search query. Ads that directly address the keyword being searched score higher on relevance, reducing wasted impressions and improving Quality Score.

LP
Landing Page Experience

Google evaluates the page the user lands on after clicking your ad. Relevance to the ad copy, page load speed, mobile usability, and clarity of the conversion path all contribute to your Quality Score and actual CPC.

Ad Extensions (Assets)

Ad extensions expand your ad with additional information — sitelinks, callout text, phone numbers, location, prices, and more. They increase ad size, improve CTR, and boost Quality Score at zero additional cost per impression. We configure all relevant extensions for every campaign.

Match Types & Search Terms

Keyword match types (Exact, Phrase, Broad) control which searches trigger your ads. The wrong match type setup can drain budgets on irrelevant queries. We audit and tighten match types while building comprehensive negative keyword lists to eliminate wastage from day one.

Conversion Tracking Architecture

Without accurate conversion tracking, Google's smart bidding algorithms are flying blind. We set up full conversion tracking via Google Tag Manager — phone calls, form submissions, WhatsApp clicks, purchase events — ensuring the algorithm optimises for what actually matters to your business.

Cost Optimisation

Bidding Strategies That
Maximise ROI — Not
Just Spend

Most agencies default to the same bidding strategy for every account — "Maximize Clicks" or "Target CPA" — without considering whether the account has enough conversion data to support it. We match bidding strategy to account maturity, business goal, and data volume. The wrong bidding strategy can increase your CPA by 60% overnight.

Get Bidding Audit

Target CPA Bidding

Google's algorithm automatically sets bids to get as many conversions as possible at or below your target cost per acquisition. This strategy requires a minimum of 30–50 conversions per month to work correctly. We set this up only when the conversion data threshold is met — never prematurely.

30+ Conversions/MonthLead GenerationSmart BiddingAuto-CPC

Target ROAS Bidding

Optimises bids to achieve your target return on ad spend. Google prioritises clicks most likely to result in high-value conversions. Essential for ecommerce campaigns where transaction values vary significantly across products. We set ROAS targets 15–20% below actual performance to give the algorithm room to breathe.

EcommerceRevenue TrackingConversion ValueProduct Segmentation

Maximize Conversions

Spends your entire daily budget to get the maximum number of conversions. The right strategy for accounts with sufficient budget and conversion volume where the goal is volume over efficiency. Often used during new campaign launch phases before enough data exists for Target CPA.

Volume CampaignsNew CampaignsBudget-Flexible

Enhanced CPC (eCPC)

A manual-plus-smart hybrid. You set manual bids and Google adjusts them upward for searches likely to convert and downward for those less likely. The safest smart bidding option for accounts with limited conversion data — it captures machine learning benefits while keeping human control intact.

Portfolio Bid Strategies

For larger accounts with multiple campaigns, Portfolio bid strategies pool conversion data across campaigns — enabling smart bidding to work effectively even when individual campaigns have limited conversion history. We configure portfolio strategies across relevant campaign groups to unlock smart bidding at scale.

Manual CPC with Optimisation

ROI-Driven Approach

How We Turn Ad Spend
into Profitable Revenue

Every campaign we manage is built around one question: what does this business need to earn per rupee spent to make Google Ads worthwhile? We work backwards from your target CPA or ROAS, build campaign structures and bids that support that goal, and optimise weekly until we reach it consistently.

The difference between a ₹1 lakh/month Google Ads budget that loses money and one that prints profit isn't the budget size — it's the structure, the negative keywords, the Quality Score, the landing page alignment, and the weekly optimisation cadence. That's exactly what we provide on every account we manage.

Profit-First Budget Allocation

We calculate your target CPA based on product margin, customer lifetime value, and close rate — then structure budgets to hit that CPA consistently, not just minimise CPL in isolation. Profitability is the north star, not click volume.

Search Term Mining Every Week

We review every search query that triggered your ads weekly, add irrelevant terms as negatives, and discover new high-intent queries to add as exact match keywords. This continuous refinement is what separates a 2× ROAS account from a 5× ROAS account.

Quality Score Improvement Programme

We actively work to improve Quality Scores above 7/10 across all high-spend keywords. Each 1-point increase in Quality Score can reduce your CPC by 16–50%. We rewrite ad copy, restructure ad groups, and align landing pages to push QS up systematically.

Attribution Modelling & Full-Funnel Tracking

Last-click attribution under-credits top-of-funnel keywords that initiate the purchase journey. We set up data-driven attribution in GA4 and Google Ads to see the full conversion path — making smarter budget decisions across the entire campaign mix.

Competitor Intelligence & Auction Insights

Google's Auction Insights report shows exactly which competitors are bidding on your keywords and how your impression share compares. We monitor this weekly and adjust strategy when new competitors enter your auctions or when an opportunity to gain share at lower cost appears.

Keyword Strategy

Keyword Research That
Finds Buyers, Not
Just Browsers

PPC keyword strategy is completely different from SEO keyword strategy. In Google Ads, every click costs money — so we focus exclusively on keywords where the user has clear buying intent. Informational queries get blocked with negatives; transactional and commercial queries get optimised budgets and premium bids.

01

Competitor & Market Research

We analyse which keywords your top 3–5 competitors are bidding on using SpyFu, SEMrush, and Google's Auction Insights. This reveals proven demand signals and high-value terms you may be missing — and gaps in the market where CPCs are lower and intent is still strong.

02

Intent Classification & Match Type Assignment

Every keyword is classified by intent — Transactional, Commercial, or Navigational. Transactional keywords ("buy protein powder online") get exact match and premium bids. Commercial keywords ("best gym supplement India") get phrase match. Informational terms become negatives.

03

CPC & Competition Analysis

Using Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs, we estimate realistic CPCs, monthly search volumes, and competition levels for each keyword — allowing accurate ROAS forecasting before a single rupee is spent. No surprises in month one.

04

Negative Keyword Architecture

We build negative keyword lists from day one — blocking job seekers, students, competitors, free-seekers, and irrelevant query patterns that would waste budget without a chance of converting. Comprehensive negatives are built before the campaign even launches.

05

Ongoing Search Term Expansion

As campaigns run, we mine the Search Terms Report weekly for new high-intent queries to add as exact match keywords. This continuous expansion compounds account performance — the account gets better every single week as the keyword list becomes more refined and targeted.

Keyword Intent in Google Ads

Intent Type
Example Query
Transactional ✓
buy running shoes online / hire SEO agency / book dentist appointment
Commercial ✓
best SEO agency India / top dermatologist Pune / protein powder review
Local ✓
plumber near me / CA firm Patna / AC repair Lucknow
Informational ✗
what is SEO / how to do yoga / who invented the internet
Navigational ✗

Why Most Google Ads Accounts Waste 30–40% of Budget

The average Google Ads account wastes 35% of spend on irrelevant search terms — people searching for jobs, free resources, competitor brands, and informational queries. This is preventable with a comprehensive negative keyword strategy and weekly search term audits. We fix this in the first 30 days.

Why Namo Digital

Google Ads Management
Done With Full Accountability

Most agencies take your budget, run the same campaign template they use for everyone, report on "impressions" and "clicks," and call it done. We take a fundamentally different approach — every rupee is tracked to real business outcomes, every decision is documented, and every recommendation is backed by data from your account, not generic best practices from someone else's industry.

You Own 100% of the Account — Always

Your Google Ads account is created in your Google email and you retain admin access at all times. We are added as managers. If you ever leave, you take the full account history, conversion data, and audience lists with you — nothing held hostage, ever.

No Management Fee on Ad Spend Markup

We charge a flat management fee. We do not take a percentage of your ad spend — which creates a perverse incentive for agencies to increase your budget regardless of whether it's profitable. Our fee is fixed; your budget decisions are based purely on performance data.

Certified Specialist on Your Account

Every account is managed by a Google Ads certified specialist. You get one dedicated point of contact who understands your business deeply, not a revolving door of account managers who need to re-learn your account every 3 months.

Reports That Show Actual Revenue Impact

Our monthly reports show: ad spend, leads generated, cost per lead, revenue attributed, and ROAS — in plain language. You see the numbers that matter to your business P&L, not impressions, reach, and "potential audience size" that obscure poor performance.

Proactive Communication — Not Monthly Surprises

If your CPL is rising, if a competitor has entered your auction, or if a campaign is underperforming — you hear from us immediately, not in next month's report. Proactive alerts and bi-weekly check-ins are standard on every account we manage.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Google Ads
Questions — Answered Honestly

What is the minimum budget to start Google Ads in India?

There is technically no minimum — Google Ads can run on any daily budget. However, to gather meaningful data and run smart bidding algorithms effectively, we recommend a minimum monthly ad spend of ₹20,000–₹30,000 for local service businesses and ₹50,000+ for ecommerce and competitive niches. Below these thresholds, the algorithm doesn't get enough conversion data to optimise, and you're essentially running manual bids forever. Our management fees are separate from ad spend — ad spend goes directly to Google, not to us.

How long does it take for Google Ads to show results?

You'll see traffic and clicks from day one of launch. However, consistent, profitable performance typically takes 4–8 weeks — the time needed for Google's algorithm to exit the learning phase, for the account to accumulate sufficient conversion data for Smart Bidding, and for our weekly optimisation to remove wasted spend. Unlike SEO, which takes months, Google Ads delivers results in weeks — but week 1 numbers are not representative of month 3 performance. We set realistic expectations and show you progress data weekly.

What is a good ROAS for Google Ads?

A "good" ROAS depends entirely on your product margin. As a rule of thumb: if your gross margin is 50%, you need a minimum 2× ROAS to break even on ad spend, and 4× ROAS to achieve a healthy profit after ad costs and management fees. For ecommerce in India, we typically target 4–8× ROAS depending on product category and competition. For lead generation, we measure Cost Per Lead and Cost Per Acquisition instead of ROAS. We calculate your specific target ROAS during onboarding based on your actual margin data — not generic benchmarks.

Can Google Ads work for very small businesses with limited budgets?

Yes, but only if the campaign is tightly focused. Small budgets require hyper-specific keyword targeting (exact match only), geo-targeting to a small radius, extremely refined negative keyword lists, and ad scheduling to only run during peak conversion hours. Spreading a small budget across broad campaigns is the most common mistake we fix for small businesses. A ₹500/day budget spent on 3 highly relevant exact match keywords in one city will outperform the same budget spread across 200 keywords nationally. Focus is the most important budget efficiency lever.

What is the difference between Google Search Ads and Performance Max?

Search Ads show text ads only on Google Search results, triggered by specific keywords you choose. They offer maximum transparency and control. Performance Max is a fully automated campaign type that serves ads across all Google inventory — Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and Discover — using Google's AI to find conversions anywhere across its network. Performance Max requires strong creative assets (images, videos, headlines) and sufficient conversion history to work well. We typically recommend starting with Search campaigns to build conversion history, then adding Performance Max once the account has 30+ monthly conversions.

How do you report on Google Ads performance?

Every client receives: a live Looker Studio dashboard updated daily showing spend, leads, CPL, ROAS, and key metrics at a glance; a detailed monthly PDF report covering performance vs target, what worked, what didn't, what we changed, and what we're doing next month; and bi-weekly brief email updates flagging anything material. We don't hide underperformance — if a campaign isn't hitting target, you'll know it before we do (via dashboard access) and we'll have a documented plan to fix it in the same communication.

Do you charge a percentage of ad spend or a flat management fee?

We charge a flat monthly management fee, not a percentage of ad spend. Percentage-of-spend models create a direct financial incentive for agencies to increase your budget regardless of whether it's profitable for you. We believe that's a conflict of interest. Our flat fee means our incentive is purely to maximise your results — because that's what drives retention. Management fees typically range from ₹12,000–₹40,000/month depending on account complexity and scope, with ad spend going directly to Google on your payment method.

What happens to my Google Ads account if I stop working with you?

Everything stays with you — completely. Your Google Ads account was created in your Google email and you retain full ownership. Your campaign history, conversion data, audience lists, negative keyword lists, Quality Score history, and all the intellectual work we've done stays in your account permanently. We remove our manager access when you leave — and that's it. We encourage you to download account snapshots before leaving so you have a local copy, and we're happy to do a proper transition handover briefing to ensure continuity regardless of why you're moving on.
